Projects

In this section you will discover the most relevant projects currently being developed at Onkologikoa

Together with clinical research, the Innovation department develops its activities by setting in motion R&D&I projects related to cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Desirée

Software to help the making of clinical decisions in breast units.

Within the H2020 framework programme and in collaboration with a consortium of eleven companies, technology centres, universities and hospitals in Europe and the United States. Focussed on a software environment to help with decision-making in breast units, intended to become an international benchmark. The objective includes generating a more agile, global and intuitive way to visualise all of the information available on each patient in the multidisciplinary environment of functional units. The patient therefore receives more personalised care with a more global view of their case.

The system will also be "smart", meaning that it will learn from the decisions made as well as from the outcomes obtained with them, thereby generating new evidence based on accumulated experience, particularly for making decisions in more complicated cases not found in the "clinical practice guides". Desirée has received European Union funds within the framework of the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme with subsidy agreement number 690238.

Zain

A programme to design new anti-tumour therapies.

Within the Etorgai programme run by the Basque Government Development Agency (SPRI), charged to the expenses budget of the Basque Government Ministry of Economic Development and Competitiveness and to the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), and in consortium with Oncomatryx, Quimatryx, Metdia Biotech and Stemtek Therapeutics, this programme has the final objective of designing new anti-tumour therapies in animal model systems to support the carrying out of clinical trials on humans.

Mamosint

A tool for helping diagnosis and thereby reduce the number of complementary tests.

Within the GAITEK programme run by the Basque Government Development Agency (SPRI), charged to the expenses budget of the Basque Government Ministry of Economic Development and Competitiveness and to the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) and in collaboration with Odei, MAMOSINT has the objective of developing a tool to aid diagnosis (CAD) with a view to reducing the number of complementary tests required for early cancer diagnosis by improving the visualisation and quantification of microcalcifications.

E-mix

A project to change the scenario of clinical research in cancer.

Project headed by Onkologikoa within the SPRI's HAZITEK programme, charged to the expenses budget of the Basque Government Ministry of Economic Development and Competitiveness and to the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER). In consortium with Ibermática, BIOEF, Biodonostia and Biocruces, E-MIX focusses on the need to change the scenario of clinical research in cancer in the BAC.

By means of prioritising a collaboration strategy, in E-Mix, Onkologikoa will lead the generation of a computer tool to connect cancer patients under systemic treatment with the offer of clinical trials in a hospital network. This project will initially develop in centres attending to Osakidetza patients for its subsequent sale to other hospital management groups. The system will help patients to receive offers of clinical research by means of oncology alerts each time they need to start a new treatment.

When this happens, the E-Mix system will show the oncologist potential clinical trials for that specific patient at one of the Osakidetza centres and will put them in touch with the chief researcher.

Onkotools

An application enabling the oncologist to a obtain a fast and global vision for monitoring the patient.

Within the HAZITEK programme run by the Basque Government Development Agency (SPRI), charged to the expenses budget of the Basque Government Ministry of Economic Development and Competitiveness and the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) and in consortium with Near Technologies, Onkotools aims to develop an application giving oncologists a fast and global overview for monitoring the patient, with all of the necessary information available on the different treatment cycles.

Onkotools will therefore combine a tool for faster appraisal of the effectiveness of the oncology treatment with a tool making it possible to continuously monitor toxicity while keeping the patient in permanent contact with the medical team. This project is part of the innovation in patient experience considered by Onkologikoa to be a priority strategy for furthering innovation.

Biotrend

Search for biomarkers for the molecular characterization of response to hormone treatment in breast cancer.

Charged to the budget of the Basque Government Ministry of Health, Biotrend is a translational research project focussed on finding biomarkers for the molecular characterization of response to hormone treatment in luminal breast cancer. This collaborative project, to be carried out by Onkologikoa (leader), Biodonostia, CEIT and CIC-Biogune, looks at a line of translational research which is now a classic at Onkologikoa: primary hormone treatment.

This new project characterizes biomarkers enabling the use of pre-surgery hormone treatment in patients with early breast cancer as an innovative scenario for personalising treatments and looking for new therapeutic targets.

Impetus

A project to promote a new care process for offering the most effective treatments and support care.

The project, headed by Onkologikoa within the HAZITEK programme run by the Basque Government Development Agency (SPRI), is charged to the expenses budget of the Basque Government Ministry of Economic Development and Competitiveness and to the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER).

With the aim of promoting a new care process enabling us to offer each patient the most effective treatments and support care, new products will be developed to enable a more objective understanding of the patient's current state, predict the outcomes of the actions offered and create an environment where the patient can become actively involved both in making decisions and in their own state of health.
