Chemotherapy uses powerful drugs to kill cancer cells, control their growth or alleviate the symptoms of pain. Chemotherapy can include a single drug or a combination of two or more drugs depending on the type of cancer and its progression rate.
Radiotherapy uses high-energy beams to destroy cancer cells. More than half of cancer patients undergo some kind of radiotherapy. It can be used as an independent treatment or together with other therapies, reducing the tumours prior to surgery or chemotherapy and destroying any cancer cells potentially remaining after other treatments.
