FAQs
Take a look at the majority of the doubts we regularly answer in our everyday work.
If I am an Osakidetza patient: Onkologikoa has an Agreement with the Basque Government Ministry of Health for attending to patients under the Social Security Scheme. In order to visit our centre, you must obtain a referral note from the Health Inspectorate. The first thing you must do prior to treatment at Onkologikoa is to visit your family doctor, the doctor who is in charge of your process, or the Patient Services Unit (SAPU) at your centre.
Having first of all consulted the service that will treat you, you will be told the approximate time you must wait to be seen. You will then be given an appointment if you wish, as well as receiving help from the different services you require on your first day, or on repeated occasions if required.
We must make an exhaustive study of your case before making any decision regarding therapy. If you wish, you can "ask for an opinion" at our centre. In the event of choosing this option, you must provide medical reports and diagnostic tests made beforehand so that we can study them; the treatment alternatives will then be explained to you when you meet the doctor.
In the event of having private insurance, you must personally organise this service with your company. If you are being referred by Osakidetza, this service can be organised by Onkologikoa when considered necessary and justified.
You will be told how many doctors make up the corresponding service, stipulating that, although each doctor generally deals with a specific pathology, they work as a team and constantly meet for clinical sessions to study the different cases, agree to criteria and discuss treatments.
